Top role for Professor Jones-Evans

DYLAN JONES-EVANS has been appointed director of research and innovation at the University of Wales.

Prof Jones-Evans, currently deputy director of the inter-disciplinary Centre for Advanced Studies at Cardiff University, will work with the university's vice-chancellor and chief executive, Professor Marc Clement in the newly-created role.

Professor Jones-Evans will bring his considerable experience of business and entrepreneurship to the work of encouraging regional, national and international research collaboration across Wales, thereby facilitating and supporting the higher education sector's research and innovation agenda.

He said: "I am delighted to be given this unique opportunity within the University of Wales. Creating an innovative economy is critical for the future prosperity of Wales and the exciting new projects being developed within the institution will make a significant contribution to this over the next few years."

Prof Clement said: "The university is fortunate indeed to have secured the services of such a gifted and respected colleague. The exceptional skill and talent he will bring to this vital new role will further enhance the range of expertise already available within the university's management team."
